Get ready for island pirate energy with the Anna Maria Island Privateers, a local non-profit krewe based on Anna Maria Island and serving Manatee County. Established in 1971, the group supports youth programs and community events through fun, family-friendly activities with a pirate theme.
One of their signature traditions is the annual 4th of July Parade—often called the Southeast’s biggest water fight. It typically starts around 10 a.m. at Coquina Beach in Bradenton Beach and travels north through the island, featuring decorated floats (including the Privateers’ “Skullywag”), classic vehicles, beads, candy, music, and plenty of water-gun battles between participants and spectators. The event is free and draws crowds along Gulf Drive for a wet, patriotic celebration. The Privateers also host other gatherings such as Christmas in July, Talk Like a Pirate Day parties, and community appearances.
